Harry Happenings......
Looking for info K-code 1966 Mustang from New Jersey
We are trying to gather information on this 1966 Mustang Fastback, that one of our readers has just purchased. The information we do know is the car came from the factory as a K-code (289/271 HiPo) with a four speed and 3.89 rear. The interior is red with red trim. Most notable on the car is a vintage Mickey Thompson cross-ram intake sporting two Holley carburetors under the infamous Ford Thunderbolt bubble hood. The car was built at the Metuchen, N.J. Ford plant and raced in New Jersey. In fact, the car wears a Raceway Park Class Winner sticker. If you are aware of any info on this vehicle please email us at 1966 Mustang Info. (3/19/2015)

Harry Laplatte from the DRHOF.com had a great time at the the Daytona Turkey Run and sent us this cool photo of a Gasser style 1953 Ford. At first look, the looks like it's on fire inside, but is actually the setting sun emanating through the period red plexiglass windows Is this where Harry is heading.....photographer? (12/1/2014)
More......Island Dragway news!

Needless to say, the 50th anniversary event of Don Garlits' momentous 200 mph run at Island Dragway in 1964 was a great success! The event this past weekend, August 1,2 & 3, saw DRHOF.com's Harry Laplatte and George Case in attendance along with Don Garlits and then on Sunday Bruce Larson. For those who don't recall 1989 Winston Funny Car Champion, Bruce Larson, drove Garlits' dragster for a few years, in the early 1990's, after Don was forced to step out of the cockpit due to medical conditions, detached retinas.

Also, Jim Klim brought his exquisite early 60's restored Lynwood Chassis Fiat, which was part of the display and really drew many people to the booth.  Over the three days many racers young and old stopped by to chat and do what we do best...BENCH RACE!

Super Chevy Show returns to PBIRand Harry's there...

Jupiter, FL Palm Beach International Raceway - DRHOF.com's, Harry Laplatte reports that the SCS at PBIR this weekend had a nice turnout! This photo below of Harry with a Jenkins' 1969 Camaro that caught his eye. If this is the real car it the the car that introduced Pro Stock to the NHRA. The car was originally a Super Stock racer, then run in A/Modified Production. The factories like the idea of using at the time new vehicles to help generate sales on the dealership level. Ford, GM and Chrysler all had teams running cars. It was a great era to be there at the beginning of the Pro Stock seeing the battles between Jenkins, Sox, Glidden and many more. Hopefully, we'll receive several more photos of the happenings at PBIR from the weekend. (4/6/2014)

Frank Johansen aka "Huckleberry Hound" induction ceremony 2013

At the recently completed Mopar event held at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, FL, our own Harry "the Hat" Laplatte presented longtime racer, Frank Johansen with an induction plaque and accolades for his long history and contributions to the Drag Race community.

Frank began racing in 1958 driving a 1955 Oldsmobile convertible in D/SA. He earned his first major victory at the 1961 NASCAR 50day championships at Daytona International Speedway winning more rounds than any other racers! During the late 50's and 60's, Frank drove a variety of a drag cars, which included Top Fuel, Pro Stock and Super Stock. During the 1960's he had a series of Dodge and Plymouth wedge and Hemi powered cars and was the first to set the prestigious AA/SA national record in 1964 after the Fords and Chevrolet cars domination in the class! In 1969, Frank received one of the now fabled 1969 COPO 427 Camaro, actually #17 of the production run. Frank campaigned the Camaro during the intense factory-backed Super Stock wars of the early 1970's.

Performance Center does well at Louisville NSRA event

August 4 - The Performance Center crew did well at the National Street Rod Association event, in Louisville, KY, this past weekend showing the recently completed blown Hemi powered Model "A" pickup and the wild 509" 1932 Ford coupe! Lots of interest in the builds stated Harry Laplatte, one of the staff at the Jupiter, FL shop. Harry spoke with local Pottstown, PA custom car builder Bill Borneman, the owner of Blast from the Past Street Rods, Inc., who was attending the show and stated how he would be in the area this week and how he was friends with several notables from the area like, Bob Moon (Media Clean Specialties), Steve Giordano (Hudson Performance), Rich Lamont (422 Motorsports) and George Case all of whom he plans on visiting while getting ready for the Pocono Drag Lodge Reunion.

Harry also stated that the Louisville show was amazing with a total of 12,000 street rods in attendance for the four-day event. As usual, good old Harry was out there spreading the word about this coming weekends goings on; The Pocono Drag Lodge's 50th anniversary get together, where Harry will present several of the 2013 DRHoF.com inductee presentations. Scheduled to attend are Ray Whitney, Art Marshall and Roger Munn. Correspondingly, the Flashback Friday event at Beaver Springs Dragway, where the 422 Allstars Nostalgia Drag Racing Series will be competing on Saturday. Friday's event is a non-points day with plenty of cool nostalgia cars in both the race and show prtions of the event. (8/4/2013)

Drag Race Hall of Fame's Harry Laplatte on the road again!
Harry Laplatte of the DragRaceHallofFame.com is back on the road doing some vehicle hauling for none other then the famous Don Garlits. Garlits, who started the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing receives many donations from racers around the country including some very historic race cars that garner the halls of the museum. The museum's latest acquisition is the "Megalomania" MGB, that Harry and co-conspirator Bob Kraft made the trek out to Tuscon, AZ to pick up and bring it back to the museum for display. The car can only be described as "funny!" The totally reworked MGB constructed in 1967 sports a Hilborn injected 396 big-block Chevrolet engine backed by a Muncie four speed transmission. The history of the car is pretty wild being built in England by drag race enthusiast Keith Sales in 1967. The car is not recognizable as a MGB with the addition of a highly modified fiberglass body with an XKE style front end and Ferrariesque rear tail. (4/22/2013)

Harry Laplatte has always been into a variety of odd vehicles, but this time its way out there! Here's Harry driving a boat body on a 4-wheel truck chassis. Very cool Harry, I guess you can just motor down the street into the Atlantic ocean.

DRHOF.com staff moves Garlits and Kalitta historic dragsters....

The DRHOF.com staff is on the move being chosen by Don Garlits to move his historic "Swamp Rat XIV" rear-engined dragster along with Connie Kalittas original "Bounty Hunter" front-engine dragster to Kentucky for the Carl Casper's Custom Car Show. The show is being held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville February 22, 23 & 24. Garlits' was the first racer to successfully campaign a rear-engine dragster beginning in 1971 after a catastrophic transmission failure severing his last front-engine car in two in 1970. Don lost part of his foot and while recuperating in the hospital draw up the plans for the revolutionary rear-engined car. Rear-engined dragster were built and raced prior to Garlits', but were ill handling and abandoned. Garlits figured it out by changing the steering box ratio that the car would handle better and as they say, the rest is history!.
